Partes Speaking B1: consejos

El Speaking es una de las pruebas que más temor produce en los estudiantes, ya que piensan que pueden quedarse bloqueados. Por este motivo, es muy importante practicar esta sección del examen y conocer las partes de Speaking B1.

Características del Speaking B1 de Cambridge

La duración aproximada del examen de Speaking es de 10 – 12 minutos, con el objetivo de evaluar las capacidades de habla del idioma que tiene cada alumno.

Está estructurado en 4 partes, siendo 2 de ellas individuales y, las otras 2, realizadas en compañía de otro candidato.

En la sala donde se desarrollará el Speaking habrá 2 examinadores, de forma que mientras uno de ellos realiza las preguntas, el otro evaluará al estudiante.

Ambos examinadores dan su puntuación al final del examen una vez salidos los candidatos. El examinador que hace las preguntas aporta una puntuación sobre 5 y el otro una puntuación sobre 20, aunque el peso de cada valoración es de un 33% el interlocutor (la persona que habla) y del 66% el asesor (la persona que no habla).

Recomendaciones para cada parte del Speaking B1 de Cambridge

Ahora que conoces las particularidades del examen de Speaking de nivel B1, es el momento de que identifiques sus partes y cómo debes realizar cada una de ellas.

Presentación

Durante la primera parte de la prueba de Speaking se realizarán una serie de preguntas personales a los candidatos para conocerlos en mayor profundidad. Así, es común que se realicen cuestiones como el nombre del candidato y su lugar de residencia, sus estudios, sus aficiones, y otros aspectos relacionados con sus intereses, planes y experiencias.

Aquí es importante no contestar con monosílabos, sino elaborar frases largas que permitan demostrar el conocimiento del idioma. Es recomendable que las respuestas tengan una duración en torno a los 20 segundos.

Además, como las preguntas suelen ser siempre las mismas, puedes llevarlas medianamente preparadas de casa para no quedarte en blanco.

Algunos ejemplos de preguntas:

• When is your birthday?

• What did you do on your birthday?

• What presents did you get?

• What is your favourite time of the year? Why?

Descripción de imagen

Una vez terminada la fase anterior, se entregará al candidato una imagen para que la describa durante unos 2 ó 3 minutos.

Para hacer bien esta prueba puedes seguir una estructura que vaya definiendo la fotografía de lo más general a lo más específico. Asimismo, puedes hacer especulaciones si hay elementos que no están del todo claros.

Recuerda que aquí tendrás que utilizar el «Present Simple» para decir lo que hay en la imagen y el «Present Continuous» para definir lo que están haciendo los personajes que aparecen en ella.

Aquí exponemos un ejemplo de como hacer la descripción de una imagen:

General situation:

• There are three people in the picture in a kitchen celebrating a birthday.

• I can see a mother and children in this picture who are having a birthday party.

• This is a picture of a family enjoying a birthday cake together.
  

Doing:

• The mother is eating some chocolate cake.

• The little girl is putting some cake into her mother’s mouth.

• The baby is looking at her sister and holding a plastic spoon.
  

People description: (mood/age/appearance/clothes)

• The mother is very happy, looks about 30 years old and she has got short curly hair. She is wearing a colourful dress and several bracelets and earrings.

• The baby on the right hand side is a girl – you can tell by the ribbon in her hair. She looks about 1 or 2 years old. She has got short brown curly hair and is quite chubby. She’s wearing a blue T-shirt.

• The girl on the left hand side who is giving the cake to her mother, might be about 4 years old. Her hair is longer than her sister’s hair, and the same colour. She’s wearing a colourful dress too.
  

There is / are:

• There is a cake on the table with the words ‘Happy Birthday’ written in chocolate icing.

• There are two plates on the table and I can see one red serviette under one of the plates.

• In the foreground we can see two plastic cups with straws in them.

• Behind the mother and children there are some blue kitchen drawers and cupboards.
  

Weather:

• It seems to me that it must be a sunny day because I can see sunlight on the wall behind the mother.

• Because of the clothes they are wearing I think it is a warm bright sunny day. It is probably in the summer.

• It looks like they are having good weather because of the clothes they are wearing and the sunlight on the kitchen walls.
  

Future:

• I think that the mother will/ is going to help the baby eat because she is very little.

• The cake is very big so I don’t think they will/ are going to eat it all.

Past simple/Present perfect:

• They have just started to eat.

• They have already started eating the cake.

• I think the mother made the cake because it doesn’t look like the cakes you buy in the shops.

They haven’t invited many people to the party because we can only see three people in the picture

Opinions:

• I would say that….because

• It seems to me that… because

• By the looks of it…. because

• I’d say that…. because

More structures:

• The mother should be careful that the baby doesn’t knock the cake on the floor.

• They may take a long time to eat the cake.

• They must have serviettes in case the baby makes a mess!

• They have to sing ‘Happy Birthday’.

Diálogo

La 3ª parte del examen de Speaking consistirá en mantener una conversación con el otro candidato para intentar llegar a un acuerdo, ¡aunque no es necesario llegar a un acuerdo!

El examinador os pondrá en contexto una situación y durante 2 ó 3 minutos, ambos estudiantes tendréis que hablar sobre las diferentes alternativas y realizar una elección.

Trata de interactuar con tu compañero y mostrar una actitud amable, intentad comentar todas las opciones posibles, o la mayoría de ellas, razona tu opinión sobre cada posibilidad y respeta el turno de palabra.

Si tu pareja se estanca, intenta ayudarle a expresarse, pues esto te puntuará positivamente.

Preguntas

Finalmente, para dar por concluida la prueba de Speaking de B1, el examinador hará una serie de preguntas a los candidatos relacionadas con la temática que haya abordado el diálogo de la 3ª parte.

Al igual que anteriormente, hay que mostrar nuestras capacidades de diálogo, respondiendo a lo que ha dicho el otro alumno e interesándote por su opinión, reaccionando a aquello que expone y manteniendo una conversación lo más natural posible.
